Research indicates that nearly 40% of small businesses permanently close after a natural
disaster, not due to lack of demand, but because they lack immediate access to recovery capital.
In response to Hurricane Harvey, Jerome D. Love created and spearheaded a Small Business
Relief Initiative designed to deliver fast, flexible capital to entrepreneurs at a moment when
traditional financing was unavailable.
Stabilizing Small Businesses During Recovery
Under Love’s leadership, the initiative deployed $45,000 in targeted micro-grants, enabling
small businesses to reopen, cover critical expenses, and avoid permanent closure during the
recovery period.
National Thought Leadership & Recognition
The initiative and its recovery framework drew national attention, leading the U.S. Chamber of
Commerce to invite Love to address its members on strategies for helping small businesses
recover after natural disasters.
